Hanukah 2008

For a period of eight days Jewish people in various corners of the world mark Hanukah, the public holiday which is a symbol of the victory of light over darkness, good over evil. On December 22nd Hanukah was held in the Courtyard Marriott Hotel by the Israel-Georgia Chamber of Business, Israeli Embassy, Khabad, Sokhnut, Joint and all Other Jewish organizations working in Georgia and was dedicated to the Georgian soldiers who defended small country, but big nation. Georgian government officials, representatives from the Israeli embassy and Jewish organizations attended the event.
President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili traditionally lit the candle of Hanukah. He elaborated on the relations between Israel and Georgia and stressed the role of Israel-Georgia Chamber of Business and the Embassy of Israel in economic, cultural and diplomatic relations.
Georgian singer Ia Chantladze opened the event performing a Jewish song. A short video showed a chronicle of the charity events for the August victims which were supported by Israeli organizations. President Saakashvili, President of Israel-Georgia Chamber of Business Itsik Moshe and Itskhak Gerber, an Israeli ambassador to Georgia, made speeches.
“Hanukah as a symbol of hope and victory is even more important after the latest developments in Georgia. Therefore, the commemoration this year was dedicated to those Georgian soldiers who protect their small country but big nation” – said Itsik Moshe.
Medical treatments for 22 Georgian soldiers were funded by the Israel-Georgia Chamber of Business.
