Successful Business through Linking the Countries

It is ten years already that Israel-Georgia Chamber of Business (CoB) steadily promotes the mutually beneficial cooperation of the two friendly countries through acting as a guide of Israeli investors on Georgian market. The last ten years brought many changes and developments in the political and economic landscape of Georgia - the Eastern European country being in the process of democratic transition.

Nowadays Georgia is an emerging market, as most Central and Eastern European countries used to be less then 15 years ago now being the members of the European Union. Georgia is becoming more and more attractive country on the investors’ world map. If someone hasn’t invested in new member countries of the EU in the nineties and now regrets that, today Georgia gives them the best opportunity to improve the mistake.

The importance of foreign investments for developing Georgian economy on the one hand, and hastily developing Georgian-Jewish relationships are the very factors the Israel-Georgia Chamber of Business uses to encourage foreign investors to enter the Georgian market.

New government of Georgia explicitly declared its support to investor companies and investment projects developing in the country. After the Israeli visit of the president Mikheil Saakashvili, where he met the local business sector representatives and promised personal support as well as guaranteed security for their business initiatives, the new stage of Israeli-Georgia economic relations began. As a result, the interest of Israeli business in Georgian investments increased for nearly five times and the Chamber of Business noted remarkable upheaval of investments respectively.

Two years ago the Chamber of Business coined the new motto: “Make Israel a leading investor in Georgian economy”. Indeed, the last two years have been noteworthy for developing a number of important investment projects. Today we can say that as per private capital invested inGeorgia, Israel is among the leaders again.

Growth of democracy, stable economic environment, liberal taxation policy and other positive developments form a favorable atmosphere for Israel-Georgia business relations to enter the new phase - the phase, in which the number of the successful investment projects is more important that the number of the investors itself.

In few years Georgia has achieved outstanding progress in terms of creating favorable environment for business development in the country. Doing business in Georgia has never been this easy. Being outside of top 100 recently, Georgia managed to pop up to 18th position on the ‘ease of doing business index’ chart prepared by the World Bank Group (http://www.doingbusiness.org/economyrankings/). Georgia holds top positions in the categories such as licensing, registering property, starting business and protecting investors. Success of CoB member companies’ investment projects is the additional proof of the achievements Georgia has made in the field. This success makes us confident that Israel-Georgia Chamber of Business is stirring to the right direction.

In close cooperation with the Embassy of Israel in Georgia the Israel-Georgia Chamber of Business will continue to direct its efforts to boost the positive cooperation between the two countries.

The Business Forum “We Build Together” planned on March 31, 2008 proudly presents the successfully implemented investment projects and new investment initiatives to be developed in 2008.
